JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is split into currently 9 different parts, each with it's own story, protagonist, set of characters and villains. While each part has it's own setting, characters and other elements of other parts influence other parts, making a long and complex story when consumed all together. The fans have dubbed every 3 parts of Jojo's having a different overall meaning, parts 1-3 being Dio (as Jojo's was originally intended to end after part 3), parts 4-6 being the stand arrows/the aftermath of Dio and parts 7-9 currently being the second continuity. Although parts 1-6 is it's own story in of itself, being about the original timeline and following the original 6 Jojo's and their stories. After part 6 the timeline changes to the new Jojo's timeline in parts 7-9, following again different Jojo's and their stories.

Phantom Blood is the very first part in the Jojo's installments, it has 5 volumes, 44 chapters and 9 episodes. It follows Jonathan Joestar, the young son of a wealthy landowner, in late 19th-century England, when he meets his new adopted brother Dio Brando, who loathes him and plans to usurp his position as heir to the Joestar family. When Dio's attempts are thwarted, he transforms himself into a vampire using an ancient Stone Mask and destroys the Joestar estate. Jonathan is trained by Will Anthonio Zeppeli in the vibrant energy of Hamon, which is the only sure way apart from sunlight of defeating Vampires and their Zombie minions, to stop Dio, who has made world domination his new goal.

Battle Tendency is the second part in the Jojo's installments, it has 7 volumes, 69 chapters and 17 episodes. It follows Joseph Joestar, the grandson of Jonathan Joestar, crossing the world in the days leading up to the Second World War in 1938 to combat the Pillar Men, an ancient race of hostile beings responsible for the creation of the Stone Mask. Like his grandfather, Joseph undergoes strenuous Hamon training alongside Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli, Will's grandson, by the secretive Lisa Lisa and tries to protect the Red Stone of Aja, a gem sought by the Pillar Men to complete the Stone Mask and grant them immunity to the Sun.

Stardust Crusaders is the third part in the Jojo's installments, it has 16 volumes, 152 chapters, 48 episodes and is set between 1988-1989. Joseph's grandson Jotaro Kujo journeys along with Joseph, Muhammad Avdol, Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff, and Iggy from Tokyo to Cairo in order to fight DIO who has returned from the depths of the sea and save his mother from DIO's mystical influence. From now on allies and villains alike primarily use Stands, which has become one of the series' most prominent features.

Diamond is Unbreakable is the fourth part in the Jojo's installments, it has 18 volumes, 174 chapters, 39 episodes and is set in the fictional town of Morioh, Japan, in 1999. It follows Joseph's illegitimate son Josuke Higashikata as he meets friends and enemies among a host of new Stand users within the population of Morioh created with the Bow and Arrow, two items which gave DIO his Stand. He, Okuyasu Nijimura, Koichi Hirose, Jotaro Kujo, and Rohan Kishibe eventually chase the serial killer Yoshikage Kira.

Vento Aureo/Golden Wind is the fifth part in the Jojo's installments, it has 17 volumes, 155 chapters, 39 episodes and is set in Italy 2001. DIO's son Giorno Giovanna fights his way to the top of Passione, the most powerful gang in Italy, as he plots to overthrow the gang's mysterious Boss in order to protect the civilian populace from the gang's drug trade. To do so he cooperates with gang member Bruno Bucciarati and his own team of Leone Abbacchio, Guido Mista, Narancia Ghirga, and Pannacotta Fugo as they are tasked with protecting the Boss's daughter Trish Una from the assassin teams La Squadra Esecuzioni and Unità Speciale.

Stone ocean is the sixth part in the Jojo's installments, and the last part of the first continuity. It has 17 volumes, 158 chapters, 38 episodes and is set in Florida 2011. Jotaro's estranged daughter Jolyne Cujoh is framed for murder and imprisoned in Green Dolphin Street Prison. Jotaro then has both his memories and Stand stolen by the Stand Whitesnake after an attempt to free Jolyne. She then decides to stay imprisoned in order to find out both who Whitesnake's user is and what he plans to do with Jotaro's memories and Stand. Along her adventure, Jolyne gains allies in Emporio Alnino, Ermes Costello, Foo Fighters, Narciso Anasui, and Weather Report.

Steel Ball Run is the seventh part in the Jojo's installments, and the first part of the second continuity. It has 24 volumes, 95 chapters, and is set in the United States 1890. In this second continuity, characters, locations, and concepts bearing similarities to those seen in the first continuity appear, but the Stand abilities and events surrounding them are drastically different. Steel Ball Run follows a race across the continent of the United States of America. The race is called the Steel Ball Run horse-race and is named after the sponsor, Steven Steel. The protagonists are Gyro Zeppeli, a master of the unique Spin technique seeking the cash prize and Johnny Joestar, a paraplegic ex-jockey seeking to cure his legs through the Spin, both cooperating to win the race. Johnny and Gyro discover that the race is a cover-up from the President Funny Valentine to uncover the powerful and invaluable relics of Jesus Christ, eventually also hunting for said relics while fending off Valentine's many agents.

Jojolion is the eigth part in the Jojo's installments, and the second part of the second continuity. It has 27 volumes, 110 chapters, and is set in Morioh 2011. University student Yasuho Hirose discovers an amnesiac man tentatively named "Josuke" in Morioh after the (then-contemporary) Great East Japan earthquake. Both then decide to investigate Josuke's past identity, initially thought to be that of the ship's doctor Yoshikage Kira, and the circumstances of his presence in town, leaving him in the care of the affluent Higashikata Family as both uncover the family's darkest secrets and a drug trade involving a mysterious race of humanoid beings and an equally mysterious fruit.

Jojolands is the ninth part in the Jojo's installments, and the third part of the second continuity. It currently has 2 volumes, 11 chapters, and is set in Hawaii sometime in the 2020's. It follows the story of Jodio Joestar, a high-school student with Antisocial Personality Disorder working as a gofer for a small gang managed by Meryl Mei Qi. Jodio is accompanied by his older sibling Dragona Joestar, and allies Paco Laburantes and Usagi Alohaoe, and aims to get filthy rich. The four of them set out on a mission to steal a diamond from a Japanese person's villa, but encounter something even more valuable.

Each part follows a different "Jojo" and their story. Each Jojo's name can be somehow shortened into the nickname "Jojo" (hence the series' title). Every Jojo is related to eachother in someway shape or form, amassing a very complicated and somewhat confusing family tree.
Jonathan Joestar is the main protagonist of the first part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Phantom Blood, and the first JoJo of the series. He is 12 during the first part of Phantom Blood, and 20 during the second half. His legacy extends throughout almost the entirety of the first six parts of the series, with major characters such as Joseph Joestar and Jotaro Kujo being his descendants. Jonathan is the son of the wealthy businessman George Joestar I and Mary Joestar. He is an honest, kind, and positive man whose life is fraught with tragedy after meeting his adopted older brother Dio Brando. In his battle against Dio, Jonathan becomes a Hamon user under the tutelage of his master Will Anthonio Zeppeli. Jonathan has a close friend in Robert E.O Speedwagon, who comes to create the famous Speedwagon foundation which aids the eventual Jojo's in their battles. Eventually he marries his long-time sweetheart Erina Pendleton, who he has a child with named George Joestar II, however this is unknown to him due to his untimely death at the hands of Dio who steals his body.
Joseph Joestar is the main protagonist of the second part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Battle Tendency, and the second JoJo of the series. He also appears as a primary ally in Stardust Crusaders, and a secondary ally in Diamond is Unbreakable. He is 18 during the events of Battle Tendency, 67 during Stardust Crusaders and 79 during Diamond is Unbreakable.
As the grandson of Jonathan Joestar, Joseph is a natural-born Hamon user and eventual Stand user, wielding the psychic photographic Stand, Hermit Purple. An exuberant troublemaker with an exceptional talent for trickery, Joseph meets the fantastic threats approaching him throughout his life with initiative and impressive ingenuity, battling vampires, the Pillar Men, and malevolent Stand users. During Battle Tendency Joseph butts head to head with Caesar Zeppelli, Will Zeppeli's grandson. The two often argue and fight with eachother, and eventually have a big arguement just before the events of Caesar's death. Just before Caesar dies, Joseph is told Caesar's story and he comes to think of Caesar as a friend. It seems Caesar also sees Joseph this way as just before he dies, he leaves Joseph a bubble of his power and his headband to defeat Wamuu. After the events of Battle Tendency, he marries Suzi Q and has a daughter named Holy Joestar. Unknown to his wife, a few years before the events of Stardust Crusaders he has an affair with a woman named Tomoko Higashikata and has a son named Josuke Higashikata, the protagonist of Diamond is Unbreakable. Joseph is the second most recurring JoJo in the series after his grandson Jotaro Kujo.
Jotaro Kujo is the main protagonist of the third part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Stardust Crusaders, and the third JoJo of the series. He also appears as a primary ally in Diamond is Unbreakable and Stone Ocean, and makes a brief appearance as a tertiary character in Vento Aureo. He is 17 during Stardust Crusaders, 28 during Diamond is Unbreakable and 40 during Stone Ocean. As a result of all his appearances, Jotaro is the most recurring JoJo protagonist of the series.
Jotaro is a Japanese delinquent with Japanese roots from his father's side, Sadao Kujo, and half-British half-Italian roots from his mother's side, Holy Kujo. Jotaro is introduced as a rough, violent delinquent, but he has a gentle heart and is loyal to those he likes. He is highly perceptive, intelligent and quick-witted while keeping a perpetually cool, slightly neutral or disinterested attitude. He has a habit of muttering "Yare Yare Daze" to himself to express annoyance toward the ordeals and other events that happen close to him, to the point it has become his signature catchphrase. Jotaro's most noticeable trait is his seemingly aloof nature. He is often satisfied with expressing himself in short phrases. He thinks anyone can tell his emotions just by looking at him, and believes that further effort in portraying how he feels would be a waste of time, making others tend to perceive Jotaro as callous. Jotaro amasses a group of friends during his travels in Stardust Crusaders, those being Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff and Muhammed Avdol. He keeps contact with Polnareff over the years and at somepoint investigates the Stand Arrows with him.
Wielding the all-powerful Star Platinum, Jotaro is the first JoJo introduced with a Stand, and is among the most well-known characters of the series. He is the ex-husband of an American woman and father of Jolyne Cujoh, the protagonist of Stone Ocean.
Josuke Higashikata is the main protagonist of the fourth part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Diamond is Unbreakable, and the fourth JoJo of the series. He is 16 years old during the events of Diamond is Unbreakable. He is the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar and Tomoko Higashikata. He also appears as one of the main protagonists in the spin-off manga Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak and the light novel Crazy Heartbreakers.
Josuke is a biracial (half-Japanese and half-British) first-year high school student residing in the town of Morioh. In the year 1999, he meets Jotaro Kujo, who informs him that he is Joseph's illegitimate son, making him a descendant of the Joestar Family. After his grandfather dies, Josuke takes it upon himself to protect his beloved town from malevolent Stand users. At first impression, strangers are often intimidated by Josuke's delinquent appearance and hotheadedness, with Jotaro Kujo and Koichi Hirose both thinking Josuke was "scary" when they initially encountered him. Indeed, his "delinquent" attitude is conveyed through his rough language; he does not always display the deference towards adults and authority figures typically expected of a Japanese teenager, opting for a casual and straightforward tone. However, it is immediately apparent that Josuke has a deep capacity for kindness, with his anger simply being an extension of his tendency to display emotions openly and passionately (especially when people insult his hair). His outgoing and friendly nature allows him to befriend many Stand users over the course of the story, converting enemies into allies. These bonds strengthen his resolve to protect the town of Morioh and the people he loves. Josuke also amasses a group of friends during the events of Diamond is Unbreakable, his closest being Okuyasu Nijimura and Koichi Hirose.

Giorno Giovanna is the main protagonist of the fifth part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Vento Aureo, and the fifth JoJo of the series. He is 15 during the events of Vento Aureo.
Giorno is the illegitimate son of DIO, conceived with Jonathan Joestar's stolen body. He is introduced as Haruno Shiobana, a half-Japanese teenager living in Italy. Giorno speaks of his intention to join the powerful gang Passione and his dream of becoming a "Gang-Star" to restore virtue to the corrupt Italian mafia. Giorno's childhood was filled with unhappiness and loneliness due to bullying and the abuse by his stepfather. As a result, he was initially cold and uncaring towards everyone and believed himself to be scum just for the way people treated him. Those that knew him would easily think he'd grow up to become a twisted individual. This changed when he befriended an injured gangster he saved. As the man protected Giorno from those that did him wrong in return for his aid, he learned that he could trust people. Since then, he has become a more confident and solicitous person. A defining characteristic of Giorno, shared among his peers through him, is his resolve something that can be described as his ability to make important decisions without hesitation and seeing them through to the very end, even in the face of pain, sorrow, and tragedy. Throughout Part 5, Giorno's resolve is such that in the heat of battle, he is frequently willing to allow himself to be injured if it leads to an advantageous situation. An ambitious individual, he readily takes any opportunity to achieve his final goal of becoming a "Gang-Star". With others, Giorno treats people with the amount of respect he believes they deserve based on his observations of their beliefs and actions. He seems to have inherited traits from both Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando, with the former's being present towards peers and allies, and the latter's towards enemies. He has a good heart and wants to help out anybody who has demonstrated kindness to him or others, but casually disregards the law. Overall, he follows his own morality without compromise. However, Giorno values life greatly and always seeks to never leave someone to die if he himself is able to help it, even putting himself in danger if another can stay unharmed. On the other hand, Giorno will punish without hesitation those that needlessly and intentionally hurt other people, as shown when he engineers Polpo's death to avenge an innocent janitor that Black Sabbath killed, and in fact, he will be particularly vicious when doing so. Except for Bucciarati, whom he spared because he recognized that the former was a righteous person, Giorno has killed everyone he's fought against without hesitation, and all have died gruesome deaths. During joining Bruno Bucciarati's gang, Giorno has made a friend in Guido Mista, Pannacotta Fugo, Narancia Ghirga, Trish Una and begrudingly Leone Abbacchio.

Jolyne Cujoh is the main protagonist of the sixth part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Stone Ocean, and the sixth JoJo of the series. She is the daughter of Jotaro Kujo, the protagonist of Stardust Crusaders, and an American woman. She is 19 during the events of Stone Ocean.
Initially an ordinary girl, Jolyne quickly awakens her string-based Stand, Stone Free, during her time in jail.
Flighty, abrupt, and snappy with her elders, Jolyne during her adolescence would undoubtedly be considered a delinquent and a lost cause. Bitter at Jotaro for being absent from her life, she tried multiple times to catch her father's attention by committing various minor crimes and was arrested several times as a result. Because of her father's absence, Jolyne was said to be dependent on the affection and approval of those around her, and she was ready to cover Romeo's accident, resulting in her being sentenced to 15 years in prison for it.
After acquiring her Stand and being told by Jotaro of his love for her, Jolyne noticeably matures, becoming more courageous and confident.
Jolyne retains her confrontational attitude throughout the story. A former delinquent living in a maximum-security prison, Jolyne had to toughen up and can be especially rude, frequently taunting her enemies. She also advocates aggressively asserting herself, especially in prison, and once told F.F. to violently confront an inmate who cut in the queue for buying their lunch. Jolyne is particularly violent in her fights; she's used the cutting ability of her string to gruesomely wound her opponents, severing ears and nails, for instance. Jolyne usually doesn't seek to kill and even said that she didn't want Ermes to become a murderer. However, she readily uses lethal force against her archenemy Enrico Pucci, as he was the one enemy she explicitly said she would kill.
Jolyne also has a vindictive side and repays tenfold any wrong committed against her. Moreover, Jolyne still holds a slight grudge against Gwess, her first enemy, and wants nothing to do with her despite the latter's effort to behave in front of Jolyne. More humorously, Jolyne kept a grudge against alligators in general after Limp Bizkit revived one that attacked her, and she had fun tossing something at another alligator's head as a form of revenge. Common in her lineage, Jolyne has righteous morals and treasures her family and friends. She would selflessly do everything in her power to help her companions and random victimized people, once helping a mistreated prisoner to take back stolen money from her tormentors. Jolyne is willing to believe in the good in people, which resulted in a share of betrayals, but also earned her F.F.'s friendship. Jolyne is especially sweet to Emporio, her real first ally in Green Dolphin Street, and despite its status as an enemy, she didn't want to kill the Green Baby. Jolyne's primary motivation for investigating Whitesnake was her love for her father, though Pucci exploited this affection to escape her when he tossed Jotaro's memory disc inside of a dying Anasui, putting her through a difficult choice and forcing her to try to save her father's memory. Jolyne amassed a group of friends during Stone Ocean, particularly other prisoners, these include Ermes Costello, F.F, Narciso Anasui (who quickly becomes obsessed with Jolyne) and Weather Report.
Johnny Joestar, born Jonathan Joestar, is one of the main protagonists of the seventh part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Steel Ball Run, and the seventh JoJo of the series. He also appears in flashbacks in the eighth part, JoJolion. He is 19 during Steel Ball Run and 29 during the flashbacks of JoJolion.
A former jockey turned paraplegic, Johnny joins the Steel Ball Run race to find out the secret behind Gyro Zeppeli's Steel Balls as they're the only thing capable of healing his legs. Over the course of the race, Johnny becomes both a Spin user and a Stand user when he acquires Tusk. Johnny Joestar is introduced as a distant, depressive paraplegic man whose career as a horse jockey was ruined when he was shot in the spine after conceitedly antagonizing a passerby. However, after he momentarily experiences the ability to stand on his feet after touching the Steel Balls of Gyro Zeppeli, he becomes determined to follow Gyro and, through his guidance, learn the Spin for himself. Later, having his legs twitch due to the Corpse Parts, he additionally sets out to acquire them, despite the many other murderous pursuers of the same goal. During the Steel Ball Run race, Johnny was burdened by depression and a subsequent lack of confidence. Notably calling himself a useless person, Johnny's bleak outlook of life stemmed from his youth. Johnny's perspective improved greatly upon meeting Gyro Zeppeli. Having met someone who gave him hope and was genuinely nice to him, Johnny felt grateful for meeting the Italian executioner and treasured this relationship, at one point being willing to abandon the Corpse Parts he had to save his friend. Gyro repeatedly knocked Johnny out of his lack of confidence and helped him get the Corpse Parts, giving him assurance and optimism in life. As reflected in the multiple Acts of his Stand Tusk, the improvement was gradual, the key steps of his progress being Johnny discovering the Corpse (ACT1), then standing up for himself against Soundman (ACT2), symbolically cleansing himself of his guilt against Axl Ro and being blessed by Jesus Christ's apparition (ACT3) and finally acquiring the Corpse and regaining the use of his legs (ACT4).
Josuke Higashikata is the main protagonist of the eighth part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, JoJolion, and the eighth JoJo of the series. He is 19 during JoJolion.
Josuke is a young man afflicted with retrograde amnesia, lacking any memories prior to being discovered by Yasuho Hirose near the Wall Eyes in Morioh Town. He dedicates himself to discovering his former identity and those originally associated with him. He has affectionally been nicknamed "Gappy" by fans due to the gap in his teeth and to distinguish him from part 4's protagonist also named Josuke Higashikata.
He eventually learns that he did not exist until Josefumi Kujo and Yoshikage Kira fused together with the Locacaca fruit, and is neither one nor the other. Josuke is a Stand user and retains an upgraded version of Josefumi's Soft & Wet.
Josuke seems to have retained certain traits from both of his original identities. At times he displays strong emotions like Josefumi while also being able to analyze situations and strategize like Yoshikage. However, Josuke ultimately considers himself separate from both, being neither Kira nor Josefumi as he doesn't have memories from either man nor did anyone from Josefumi's past look for him. It causes him to question what he really is and consider his identity to be nebulous. Nonetheless, he felt a strong sadness when he first saw Holy Joestar-Kira, meaning he has also retained subconscious memories strong enough to still feel an attachment to her.
While Josuke can be violent at times, he also has a degree of restraint toward enemies he doesn't need to kill. On multiple occasions, he has asked members of the Higashikata family for permission before pursuing an enemy that relates to them, and he even kept his promise to not harm Jobin while trying to get information about the Locacaca out of him. However, Josuke is willing to defend himself and the people he knows from anyone who wishes to harm them. Josuke is not afraid to threaten to kill, and he indeed killed Tamaki Damo in cold blood in retaliation for threatening his adoptive family, though his main goal of discovering his identity means that killing his aggressors is counterproductive. That killing intent is easily triggered when someone hurts Yasuho. Josuke has also proven to be proficient at manipulating people, notably Jobin with whom he would adopt a more nonchalant persona to seem harmless. Apart from that, Josuke approaches his task calmly and methodically. Despite all this, Josuke also has a certain number of humorous quirks. He seems to be totally oblivious when it comes to mundane things while at the same time retaining an in-depth knowledge of animal and plant species. Josuke prefers sleeping underneath a whole mattress rather than the bed sheets for "increased compression." He also regularly spills food he enjoys. Josuke has also demonstrated a more childish side, implanting his hair into Joshu and Hato Higashikata for fun. Whenever the mood is right, Josuke seems to have fun declaring his victory. He notably consciously poses after outsmarting the population of Shakedown Road and also smugly claimed his win against Jobin in a stag beetle fight.
Jodio Joestar is the main protagonist of the ninth part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, The JOJOLands, and the ninth JoJo of the series. He is 15 years old.
Jodio is a small-time gangster living in Honolulu, Hawaii, with his older sibling Dragona and his mother Barbara Ann Joestar. He is a Stand user who wields November Rain, allowing him to create localized drops of rain that can crush his opponents. Jodio Joestar is a taciturn teenager with a materialistic outlook who lives a life of petty crime as a small-time hoodlum in Hawaii.
In his childhood, Jodio was diagnosed as possibly having antisocial personality disorder. A test revealed several traits such as impulsiveness and an inability to feel remorse. As a matter of fact, his personality generally aligns with the diagnosis, he is a rather reserved and solitary boy. Apart from his family, he doesn't seem to have any close friends. In fact, he explicitly declares that he isn't going to school to make friends. Though, he still seems to think of himself as fairly likeable and sociable. Jodio is uninterested in studying and his greatest ambition is to become rich. He started as a gofer at the age of 11, which he continues to be at the age of 15, simply transporting goods from one place to another. Jodio himself says he treated his job diligently and was always discreet, not speaking more than he needed to, which earned him recognition and trust in the criminal world. Jodio is callous about committing crime, stealing cars and dealing drugs at school. While he stays quiet most of the time, he is irritable and prone to violence; such as when he brutalizes policemen when his family is threatened. His narration is also somewhat familiar and self-aware and he recognizes that his goal to become "filthy rich" can sound conceited. Jodio has a lot of affection for his family which manifests as a protective instinct. He will run to his sibling's aid and he also explains that he is protecting his mother and ensuring her social status via his links with the criminal community of Hawaii.
